Florent Joerin is head of the G2C Institute (Geomatics, Environmental management and Construction) at the Haute École d’Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud, located at Yverdon les Bains, Switzerland. He is also privat-docent at the Université de Lausanne.

He held, between 2003 and 2013, the Canada Research Chair in territorial decision support and was a professor at ÉSAD. He was trained as an engineer in rural environment at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland.

His research focuses on the use of geographic information in the decision-making process regarding the future of territories. His interest mainly takes into account the complexity of territorial systems and the difficulties of decision-making together. His taste for action-research led him to design and implement participation processes combining geomatics and multi-criteria analysis.
